I found Ghost Town Gold! The Old Timers didn't get all the gold, I found gold with my metal detector
I found Ghost Town Gold! Many prospectors ignore old hard rock camps, even if they produced some high grade gold. I recently took my metal detector out to an old Ghost Town site that was a boom and then a bust more than 100 years ago. The old timers left me some nice gold that I found with my metal detector. In this video, I will take the gold bearing quartz and process it down into a gold button.

Experimenting: Sluicing vs Dry Washing: which works best to get the most gold?
Переглядів 3,1 тис.14 днів тому
Lets do an experiment to see which works best, sluicing or dry washing. Ever wonder how efficient dry washing is? It depends on a lot of different factors - mostly how coarse the gold is and how much clay in is the gravels. Under the best conditions dry washers with coarse gold they can capture well more than 95% of the gold. However, with fine gold, you may recover well less than 50% of the go...

Dry washing gravel to get gold - How much? What percentage of the gold will be recovered?
Переглядів 3,5 тис.28 днів тому
The best way to process dry gravel is with a dry washer, also known as an air jig or dry blower. The dry washer allows for the processing of gravels at a much faster rate than possible by winnowing or dry panning, and is far more efficient at collecting the gold. The dry washer is basically designed to be a short, water less sluice, where pulsations of air coming up through a porous cloth mediu...

    You need to learn to differentiate between the different pitches and tones of the sound. Gold and iron have similar sounds, but gold is a higher pitch.

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph 32 хвилини тому

      Gold can be of any size or shape and found at any depth. Iron can also be of any size or shape and found at any depth. I can make a guess based on sound and be right 80 percent of the time, but if you think you are right 100% of the time, you are fooling yourself.

    You need to quit looking at the numbers on your screen and start. Listening to the sound, the sounds the detector makes will tell you a lot more than the numbers will.

    Hey Chris, my family and I moved to South Carolina a few years ago, and we happen to have a sizable creek on our property that runs year round and averages about 2 ft. deep. We are in a unique geological zone called the Augusta Zone - nestly smashed between the Carolina Slate Belt and the sandhills on the edge of the coastal lowlands. On our property my son and i have identified quartz geodes, greenschist, and iron oxide type feldspar. There is also an abundance of black sand in and around the creek. What would you suggest is the best way to sample the area, what equipment do we need, and what would you say are our chances of making a decent find on our own property? I should also mention we are a dozen/two dozen miles south of the Barite Hill bonanza lode. I dont want to be too exact, but if you wanted to examine our situation i can email some photos and maps. Please let us know what you think.

Then went aroudn a corner to releive myself, and found and old mine tunnel moststly sluffed but stil accecssible. The next time up I went somewhere else and found a vein. Mostly all pyrite, but it dug out like gravel and was just fun. I was hooked. Surveyor by trade; also into GIS.

    Many years ago I dedicated a full summer to prospecting. 6-7 days a week. I was on the Arkansas River in B.V. Colorado. I found gold everyday. At the end of the summer I had 0.05g 😂 flour gold SUX. A few years after that I was in Washington ( west coast) and had the chance to mine on an old guys claim. After two week I had collected 0.05g. So the lesson there was location. Go to the areas where bigger gold is found. I still love to prospect, but I wouldn’t try to make a living off it

    • @ChrisRalph
      @ChrisRalph 2 дні тому

      Different detector technology, different geology, different gold deposits, etc. It suffices to say on any job, you need the right tool for the job. When I was in Australia, I mostly used big coils, but I sometimes used small coils. In the US, I also use bigger coils sometimes and smaller coils sometimes, depending on conditions. Also, TV shows are for entertainment, if you think everything on them is totally real, you are mistaken.

      That spot was roughly half way (more or less) between me in Northern Nevada and you down in the southern end of the state. Next time I am out there, I will bring tools to go deeper into the ground - I wasn't prepared to "sink a shaft" or even go more than about a foot deep into more solid material. Thanks for the book recommendations - I've sold almost 19,000 copies since it first came out.

    Does your book describe sites that I can go to sluice in California? I'm trying to figure out how to begin. (I don't want to get into trouble.)

      Laws change, and stuff that was legal in California when I wrote the book is not now illegal - including dredging. I update the book as I re-print it every couple years, but I cant keep current with legal advice. I strongly recommend you join a local prospecting club - there are several in Southern California and they have claims you can safely and legally prospect on.

      Personally I think you should just join a club

    Prices Up - In Canada a Pack of Smokes from 7-11 is... $23 Wow. Folks can save tons of money by not smoking.

      Smokes are up extra because the government wants to tax you until you decide not to do that.

    Could active volcanoes be a good source of gold?

      No. Even recently active ones are not good. Check out the video I did on this topic - See: ua-cam.com/video/Cd3w3KZyX3E/v-deo.html
